Keep Scotland Beautiful | Summer Clean

Pledge 500 miles and help #CleanUpScotland

Amey South-West Trunk Roads are pledging 500 miles of litter picking between Friday 28th May and Sunday 20th June 2021 to support Keep Scotland Beautiful and their #CleanUpScotland campaign, encouraging as many people as possible to act within their communities and help.
Since commencing the network maintenance contract for the South-West in August 2020 we have collected over 4.5 tonnes of litter from the roadside, the equivalent weight of two rhinos, from our northern routes alone. 1,730 large objects were recovered along these routes, which include the M8, M898, M74, M80, and M77.

We work in partnership with local authorities to clear roadside rubbish and tidy verges on our southern routes; 1,474 bags of litter have been collected from the A77 and A78 (Monkton to Spittalhill) weighing as much as ten grand pianos.

54% of litter on our roads is caused by people eating and drinking on the go. This litter is not only a blight to our environment and harmful to wildlife but is also extremely dangerous and expensive for our operatives to recover. We urge everyone to be a responsible road user, take your litter home, and protect the natural beauty of our country.

Join us in pledging miles towards Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Million Mile Mission where the amount of time you spend cleaning up your local area can be converted into miles. Pledge here
