We define major works as complex or challenging schemes, which require an extensive programme of maintenance extending beyond the timeframe of our other routine, cyclic or other programmed works. These schemes  may also require temporary, but lengthy changes to the road layout, traffic management and/or access to properties or businesses. For this reason they are more heavily promoted and communicated to ensure the travelling public can plan their journey time accordingly and disruption can be minimised.

These schemes are agreed in consultation with Transport Scotland and involve a programme of regular communication with other key stakeholders including local authorities, the emergency services, road hauliers, bus operators, communities and businesses.
